RE: Feathering shaft repair

Hi Crash,

Agreed the step must not face the "O" ring, I did say that it should face the bearing (and why).

I checked the size of the Hi-Tech 65MG servos and they seem to be 1mm longer than the stock E-flite ones. I have a big enough problem getting the stock ones into the holes, they don't seem to allow for the connecting wires. How did you manage with the bigger ones or did you just fit the gears into the stock servos?

I've been searching for replacement metal gear sets for the B400 with no luck so far, if you have a URL for internet access I would be grateful for it.

Happy Landings.

RE: Feathering shaft repair

I didn't have any trouble getting the Hi-Tec servos to fit. It's been a while though, I might have struggled a little but don’t remember. The good thing is I only had to put them in once. I bought them from my LHS. I use a Hi-Tec Gyro/servo combo for the tail. Had to put on a servo boom mount and change the push rod.

RE: Feathering shaft repair

Hi
Feathering – as in what birds wear.
Shaft – as in you got the shaft. And I hope you did! If not, you can buy it from your LHS (Local Hobby Shop) or online. For around $4.50 you get 2 of them.
The Feathering Shaft runs through the Rotor Housing (Also known as the Head Block. Reference Number 8 in your Blade 400 Parts List. EFLH1422). It connects both Main Blades together and usually takes a lot of the stress when a blade strike occurs. Therefore, after a blade stike, it is very important to check and replace it if necessary.
You should remove the Push Rods from the Bell Mixer Arm first (Reference Number 13 in your Blade 400 Parts List. EFLH1418) and then remove both screws at each end of the shaft (Reference Number 28 in your Blade 400 Parts List. EFLH1473).
Using the 2 small wrenches that came with your helicopter, remove the screws at the same time.

RE: Feathering shaft repair

The easiest way I can think of is taking off both rotor blades and get an Allen wrench on the screw of the feathering shaft (which becomes accessible with the blade off). Since the screw bottoms out, it should turn the whole feathering shaft. If it's bent, either blade grip might go up and down as you turn. If it's not bent, you shouldn't see many movements at all. If one or the other side rises or falls as you turn, it's probably bent.

Not to worry

according to my view, you should looking at the forward part of the setup, part no. (25) is the "O" ring and is clearly shown next to the head block. Part no. (20) is the step washer, and is clearly shown in the aft part between the "O" ring and the Blade Holder. and this website is totally good too..

RE: Feathering shaft repair

Dead right there MaryJean, that's exactly how I check for bends in the feathering shaft. I always do it from both sides as it is not always easy to tell -with a small bend - if the side you are turning is bent.
