Performance of standard parts?

I've had difficulty using the standard gyro and tail servo on my blade 400 clone (J Perkins Twister Storm). Lots of people in forums have replaced all servos and the gyro with better parts. Has anybody managed to get the original parts working, especially the standard gyro/tail servo in heading hold? I have it working in rate mode but it doesn't seem to work predictably in heading hold. I have 4 clicks of right trim on the tail ( DX6i tx) but the instructions say not to use trim. How does the gyro establish the neutral zone, does it have a fixed value or does it use the value it gets during setup?

Sounds like Startrek. By neutral zone I mean the range of input values for which the gyro gives a neutral position to the servo.

RE: Performance of standard parts?

I haven't had any issues with the gyro. I did replace all of the servos with metal gear servos. The only thing I needed to do with the gyro to get the heli stable was increase the gain a little. My memory is about as good as my flying, but I do seem to remember reading somewhere that the heading hold only works with true digital servos and that the ones that come with the 400 aren't. Of course like I said, my memory is real bad so I might have this all wrong. Hopefully someone else out there will reply. As for neutral, I believe the gyro establishes it on power up, which is why the heli should be on flat ground and not moved durring the power up cycle. But like I said, I could be totally wrong.

RE: Performance of standard parts?

My gyro (HL 400) uses a fixed neutral which is the same as the dx6i neutral. If you are in heading hold and use any other tail setting the tail rotor will drift. This is what it is meant to do. Once in the air mine needs one or two clicks of right trim to hold it.
